After more than 80 years in business, our team at William Aitken & Co are proud to share a new chapter in our story: we’re now officially B Corp Certified.
Joining a global community of purpose-driven businesses, B Corp Certification recognises companies that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. For us, this milestone is more than a badge — it’s a public commitment to using business as a force for good.
Why B Corp — and Why Now?
WAC has always stood for quality and care — in the brands we represent, the partnerships we nurture, and the way we show up for our people. But we wanted to go a step further. Becoming a B Corp signals that our values aren’t just words on a page — they’re woven into the way we work, from governance and worker wellbeing to our environmental footprint and community relationships.
“It was important to us that our business — not just our products — reflects the same standards we expect of our suppliers and partners,” says Rachel, WAC’s Managing Director. “This certification shows that we look after our people, respect our communities, and do the work to be a business that people are proud to work with and for.”
A Rigorous, Company-Wide Journey
The road to certification wasn’t easy. B Corp’s comprehensive assessment evaluates impact across five key areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. With over 200 questions, it’s a deep dive into how a company operates and the real-world outcomes of those operations.
“The hardest part was getting started,” Rachel recalls. “It’s a detailed, sometimes overwhelming process — but breaking it into parts and bringing the whole team along made it meaningful. Everyone had a piece to own, and that created real buy-in and pride.”
What the Assessment Highlighted
Here are just a few standout areas from our B Impact Assessment:
Workers: 100% of our employees earn at least a living wage, with policies in place for equitable pay, professional development, and wellbeing.
Community: We scored highly for local ownership, community engagement, and our commitment to diverse and inclusive hiring practices.
Environment: We’ve implemented waste reduction practices, sourced local and sustainable products where possible, and continually assess our environmental footprint.
Customers: With ethical marketing practices, customer feedback systems, and third-party certifications on many of our products, we continue to prioritise trust and transparency.
Governance: Our mission is formally locked into our constitution, ensuring that social and environmental impact is considered in every major decision.
What’s Next?
Becoming a B Corp isn’t the end goal — it’s the beginning of a new phase of accountability. We’ll continue to track our impact, share our progress, and look for new ways to raise the bar.
We’re grateful to Tim Jones – That B Corp Bloke, for guiding us through the process. His clarity, encouragement, and energy helped us stay focused and make it happen.
Most of all, we’re proud of our team — for stepping up, staying curious, and working together on something that will shape the next 80 years of WAC.
